The 2012 MHSOBA Golf Championship was a stableford based competition conducted at the Keysborough Golf Club on Monday 2 April. Thirty nine keen golfers assembled in the early afternoon hoping to win some of the prizes on offer thanks to the sponsorship of Ryder Commercial and Austbrokers Countrywide.
The course at Keysborough was in excellent condition and those assembled included Ron Friend who had made a special trip down from Deniliquin to compete and four current MHS students – Vinh Vu, Sam Steiner, Llewellyn Ryan and Alvin Yip, along with Assistant Principal David Smyth.
The individual award winners were • Best 18 Holes (Champion) – Bob Young (40 points) • Best 9 Holes Out – Harvey Ashton (21 points) • Best 9 Holes In – David Hutchinson (22 points) • Longest Drive – Adam Green • Nearest to the Pin (1) – Andrew Warden • Nearest to the Pin (2) – Carey Dillon
Whilst not formally recognised amongst the awards a highlight of the day was the performance by Marco Dogliotti (exit 2011) who chipped in with his third shot on the 4th hole which is a par 4 and rated as one of the toughest holes on the course. Marco scored an amazing 5 stableford points for that outstanding achievement.
In a very close competition the group of four with the highest aggregate of points comprised Bob Young (40 points), Max Brook (37 points), Graeme Trott (36 points) and Justin Trott (28 points).
Special thanks to Margie Burton who organised the event and ensured that all participants enjoyed a great day of golf.
