Vale – Alexander (Alec) McCulloch BSc TPTC (15 August 1916 – 31 May 2019).
Alec McCulloch, who died on 31 May 2019, at aged 102 was probably our oldest old boy. He was at Melbourne High from 1930-1933, an able student, who also excelled at rowing, rowing in the school 1st VIII and being award school colours in rowing. He went on to become a primary teacher, but also completed his Bachelor of Science and became a secondary teacher. A notable career as a secondary teacher culminated in his appointment as Principal of three high schools. He was founding Principal of Pakenham High School, followed by Montmorency High and he finished a distinguished career as Principal of Mt Waverly High School. As a young man he enlisted in the Navy during World War II with service in the significant Battle of the Coral Sea , then with the British Pacific Fleet, and then in Tokyo Bay for the Japanese surrender. He was associated with HMAS Lonsdale. From the ranks he rose to Lieutenant.
Active until the last two years, after he turned 100, he went into care in Warrnambool to be near his family. At 100 he had a superb recall of his school days- teachers, friends and events.
