Geoffrey Frederick Norris

MHS 1954-1957

Geoffrey was a student at Glenhuntly State School and Gardiner Central School before transferring to Melbourne High School in 1954. He played cricket for Yarra and was elected Form Captain in his first year.  A member of the Cadets, an Under Officer in Fifth Form, as well as playing for the MHS hockey team. His matric year was equally busy, serving as Form Captain and S.R.C. Rep, Cadet CUO, playing in the 2nd XI, captaining the MHS hockey team, a Yarra Sports Council representative and competing in athletics. Geoff was awarded the Speech Night Prizes for hockey, and Special Cadet and Colours in hockey and cricket. In 1958 he returned to play in the staff versus students match, which ended in a two-all draw. He continued playing hockey with Toorak East Malvern and football with Ormond.

Geoff worked for his father’s cardboard box business for 8 years until the company was sold. Working part-time, he completed a Certificate in Business at Swinburne College, which led him to becoming an Accountant and Tax Agent, beginning his career at ER Evans and Co. Geoff went on to start his own business, which grew to include 2 partners and 10 staff by the time of his retirement in 2002. He then undertook several Directorships to ease him into retirement.

Geoff met Linda in 1983 on holiday in New Zealand, and they married 18 months later.  They travelled the world extensively together. In failing health, Geoff spent two years in care and passed away peacefully, surrounded by love, with Linda by his side.
