Known as Jarrad when a student, and later as Gerry, he was a student at La Salle College, Malaysia, before coming to MHS his Matric, which he did with Honours in Indonesian, Economics, Geography and General Maths.  Returning to Malaysia, he married Chan Yoke Lan and they had three children.
