MHS Staff 1982 – 2000

Michael Humphries who died after a short illness was aged 74 years. He taught at MHS for many years (1982-2000) firstly as a teacher and then as Librarian. A tall wispy man he was quietly mannered and spoken but very scholarly. He was better on one-to-one contact than in groups. He was a keen and helpful member of staff. His M Ed thesis was published as a book:

“A School that has passed : All Saints’ Grammar School, East St Kilda, 1871-1937 / by Michael E Humphries. (1985)”

An active Anglican he was a long-time parishioner at All Saints Anglican Church St Kilda and a member of the Anglican Historical Society. Not so well known was that he was the brother of Barry Humphries.
